Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard. Leviticus 19:27

  • we are forbidden to mar the corners of our beard

They shall not make baldness upon their head, neither shall they shave off the corner of their beard, nor make any cuttings in their flesh. Leviticus 21:5

  • we are forbidden to shave off the corner of our beard.

And thou, son of man, take thee a sharp knife, take thee a barber's razor, and cause it to pass upon thine head and upon thy beard: then take thee balances to weigh, and divide the hair. Ezekiel 5:1

  • while we are commanded not to "mar the corners of our beard" and "shave off the corner of our beard", we are permitted to cut our beard. Marring the corner, or shave off the corner of the beard IS NOT the same as shaving off the entire beard.

  • Similarly, we are forbidden to reap and gather on the sabbath day, but not forbidden to pluck the ears of corn and eat on the sabbath. (Matthew 12:1)
